Putting the Con in Conservative

One of the things that I haven't always thought, but is obvious to me now, is that conservatives are probably the most ready-made pigeons if you want to pull a swindle. I got this idea from a NYTimes article some years back about a rather creepy school to produce the next generation of conservatives. The money quote for how to be a conservative:
How do they know we are conservative?
Because we say we are!

Yes, really. So,to swindle a conservative, all you have to do is find one, call yourself conservative, and you're automagically trusted. This works especially if you call yourself Christian and conservative.

Which brings us to Thomas Kinkade, the maker of kitschy art and drunk ass who peed on Winnie the Pooh.

From TPMMuckraker, we learn that Kinkade is now being investigated by the Federal BI for fraud. Says an anonymous art dealer/pigeon involved...

The ex-owners allege in arbitration claims that, among other things, the artist known for his dreamily luminous landscapes and street scenes used his Christian faith to persuade them to invest in the independently owned stores, which sell only Kinkade's work.

'They really knew how to bait the hook,' said one former dealer who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the case. 'They certainly used the Christian hook.'

Why? Because it's easy.
